Should I use AUTOGEN or SYSGEN to increase the value of NPAGEVIR?

How do I increase NPAGEVIR?

Unless you know exactly what you are doing, we recommend that you DO NOT use AUTOGEN to increase NPAGEVIR. Instead, use the SYSGEN utility. It is very simple. Follow these steps:

  1. At the dollar prompt type:

                         RUN SYS$SYSTEM:SYSGEN

  2. At the SYSGEN prompt type:

                        USE CURRENT

  3. At the SYSGEN prompt type:

                        SHOW NPAGEVIR

You will see the current value of NPAGEVIR.

  4. At the SYSGEN prompt type:

                        SET NPAGEVIR x

where x is the current value of NPAGEVIR plus the amount to be added.

  5. At the SYSGEN prompt type:

                        WRITE CURRENT

    then EXIT.

  6. At your convenience, reboot the system to insure that NPAGEVIR, which is a static parameter, is set to the new value.

By following these simple steps you will increase the value of NPAGEVIR on your system to the recommended amount and will insure that I/O Express runs at its best.

NOTE: Digital recommends making a copy of the current SYSGEN values before making any changes. For instructions on doing this, see the FAQ How do I retain the original SYSGEN value for NPAGEVIR?
