Diskeeper is not moving fragmented files I have fragmented files, yet Diskeeper seems to move contiguous files, but not fragmented ones
1. First, check that the fragmented files are not multi-header files. You can do this by running the Fragmentation Analysis Utility (FAU) with the qualifier /MOST_FRAGMENTED_FILES=n, where "n" represents the number of fragmented files you want displayed. What may be happening is that the multi-header files have been defragmented to one fragment per header and Diskeeper will not defragment the file further. If the file does NOT have ACL's (Access Control Lists) associated with it, you can use the command COPY/CONTIGUOUS on the file. This will remove the multi-headers and Diskeeper will be able to defragment the file. The utility MULTI_HEADER_CONSOLIDATE will allow you to consolidate all multi-header files without ACL's. Please refer to the Diskeeper manual for instructions and more information.
2. It could be that the fragmented files are open. Diskeeper will not process open files. For instructions on handling open files, click here.
3. The fragmented files may not fit into the free space available and Diskeeper could be moving files in an effort to consolidate free space. If this is the case, Diskeeper will begin to move the fragmented files when the free space has been consolidated.
