Can I tell Diskeeper to defragment free space?
There is no one qualifier available to force free space consolidation only. In each pass, Diskeeper looks at a file sequentially by file ID, to check if the file needs to be moved in order to make it less fragmented. If it is contiguous, then Diskeeper checks if moving the file will help consolidate free space.
There is a special startup command file called DISKEEPER_PLUS_STARTUP_MAX_FREE_SPACE which is designed to provide the maximum possible consolidation of free space on the disk. This startup command file includes the qualifiers:
/DIRECTORY_FILES
/NOIO_THROTTLING
/MULTIPLE_PASSES=10
/PLACED FILES
