I get a "tape not labelled" error. What should I do?
Your tape drive may be set to the wrong density. Our tapes are written at 1600 bpi. Normally, the tape drive will read the first record on the tape and set the density accordingly. However, some tape drives have a manual setting and cannot be changed by software. Make sure your drive is set to 1600 bpi before mounting the tape. If you already issued the mount command before you changed the tape drive setting, you need to dismount the tape before trying to mount again.
If you do not have a manual switch for setting the tape density, include the /DENSITY=1600 parameter with the MOUNT command.
$ MOUNT/FOREIGN/DENSITY=1600
If this works, proceed with the manual installation procedure. If it does not work, the tape may have been damaged in transit. Return the tape to us, so we can determine if it is a bad tape.
