Introduction Up-to-the-Minute Data Protection (TM) Data Loss Facts Summary

Up-to-the-Minute Data Protection

Undelete® for Windows NT™

Captures file deletes from any program, on any drive, anywhere on your Windows NT® Network! Available in Server and Workstation versions.

Network Capable

Undelete for Windows NT Server installs on either Windows NT Server or Windows NT Workstation. In addition to providing file recovery on the machine it is installed on, it has the added functionality of allowing system administrators to connect to and run every other Undelete for Windows NT installed on all PCs on the entire network.

System Administrators can remotely configure how they want all the other Undelete for Windows NT installations to behave and can remotely view and restore any files contained in any Recovery Bin on the network. This makes the System Administrator's job of supporting users a lot easier and faster!

Server/Workstation

Undelete for Windows NT comes in Server and Workstation versions, both including;

Emergency Undelete which is run from the CD ROM.

The Workstation version provides enhanced file recovery for the hard drives of the PC it's installed on.

The Server version provides enhanced file recovery for the hard drives of the PC it's installed on PLUS it enables the system administrator to connect and undelete from every PC on the network where Undelete for Windows NT is installed.

Please contact our helpful and knowledgeable sales staff to determine what the specific needs will be for your particular Windows NT network configuration.

Recycle Bin vs. Recovery Bin

With Server and Workstation versions on your system, the fully network enabled Recovery Bin (a special bin that captures all files that bypass the NT Recycle Bin) will even capture files deleted from File Manager, the Command Line and any application. Now it's easy to recover accidentally deleted files fast. If the file isn't in the Recovery Bin, a Systems Administrator can use Undelete for Windows NT to scan every drive on the system that has Undelete installed and recover the file - right from their desk!

Undelete for Windows NT can also locate and undelete files that aren't in the Recycle Bin by recovering them directly from any hard drive on the network, as long as that file hasn't been overwritten, all from the administrator's console.

Security of Files

Undelete for Windows NT is also network security smart! Only the owner of a file or his system administrator can recover files from the Recovery Bin and only System Administrators can run Undelete for Windows NT From Disk functions. Undelete for Windows NT Server and Workstation versions fully support Windows NT privileges and permissions and complies with government C-2 Security.

Emergency Undelete

Emergency Undelete™ - Runs directly from CD ROM:

All Undelete for Windows NT CDs include "Emergency Undelete", a separate version of the Undelete From Disk feature that runs from the CD. This utility scans NTFS or FAT partitions for files that have been deleted but are still recoverable. If you already know you need to undelete a file prior to the installation of Undelete for Windows NT, you don’t want to copy any programs onto the drive with the deleted file or you might unwittingly overwrite the file you’re trying to recover. Emergency Undelete avoids that problem by running from the CD.

Backups vs. Undelete

Traditional methods of protecting important information, such as backup tools and techniques, are not 100% reliable. In fact, while most computer users and administrators rely on backups as their safety net in the event of data loss, research indicates that up to 80 percent of data loss customers regularly back up their data only to find them less than adequate at the critical moment they need to restore them.

Backup methods assume that hardware and storage media are in working order; that the data is not corrupted, and that the backup is recent enough to provide full recovery. Unfortunately, this is all too often not the case. No operating system is immune from accidental data loss. However, the Recycle Bin does not capture all deleted files. It works only on local drives and does not capture files deleted across the network.

-Excerpts from BNI Newswire, July 1998.

Undelete for Windows NT locates and undeletes files that aren't in the Recycle Bin by recovering them directly from any hard drive on the network. Undelete for Windows NT protects against loss of files not yet backed up, and those files not easily accessible such as on tape backups.
