Windows 2000 beta 3 includes fast access to built-in
manual version of Diskeeper Defragmenter

E ast Grinstead, West Sussex – April 16 ^th 1999: Executive Software, a world leader in performance-boosting disk defragmentation software, has announced that the manual version of its Diskeeper defragmenter in Windows 2000 is now easily accessible from the Start Button in the soon to be released Beta 3.

Getting faster system performance is as simple as clicking on Start, Programs, System Tools, and Disk Defragmenter. Windows NT 5.0, now known as Windows 2000, is the first version of the OS to include a built-in disk defragmenter. Microsoft recognises the value of eliminating file fragmentation to maximise system performance and has included the Diskeeper technology to provide users with faster access to files. Disk defragmentation increases speed for e-mail servers, web and database servers, as well as many other applications such as computerised telephone networks, online banking, graphics and video, computer-aided design, and more.

T he built-in version of Diskeeper supports all file system improvements in Windows 2000 including the new FAT 32 system, 64-bit computing, and defragmentation of encrypted files. It is a scaled-down utility that defragments one disk at a time. The full-featured Diskeeper upgrade provides central controls for network-wide defragmentation. It also features automatic "Set It and Forget It" scheduling, selectable priority settings, consolidation of the paging file, and defragmentation of multiple disks concurrently.

F ragmenting files into pieces allows them to be stored in available disk space and makes efficient use of the disk, however collecting the pieces together for use takes extra time and system resources. In addition, fragmented free space on the disk can result in longer software loading times and boot times. Defragmentation consolidates files and free space together for fast access and restores system performance.

T he full-featured server version of Diskeeper is the only Windows NT defragmenter with central network controls that allow administrators to schedule, monitor and launch defragmentation across any network, whether it extends down the hall or across the country. T he Microsoft Press book "Running Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0" describes Diskeeper as ‘The most commonly used disk defragmentation program for Windows NT.’ Diskeeper is certified as Microsoft BackOffice compatible and it speeds performance for the entire family of BackOffice server products.
