New Version of Executive Software Network Undelete File Recovery Utility Gets Files Back Fast
E
ast Grinstead, West Sussex - August 24th, 1998: Executive Software, maker of the award-winning Diskeeper( disk defragmenter and provider of the defragmentation technology in Windows NT( 5.0, has announced a new version of its breakthrough file recovery product: Executive Software Network Undelete for Windows NT. Version 1.1 of the product is being released at a time when new research findings are exposing common misconceptions about the sources of computer data loss. A study done by data recovery specialists Ontrack Data International (www.ontrack.com) has brought to light that nearly five times the amount of data loss is caused by human error, such as accidental file deletions, as compared to the dangers of computer viruses. Further data revealed that 80% of backup tapes fail to recover lost files or are not available at the critical moment of need.
E
xecutive Software Network Undelete provides the broadest range of data p rotection. It surpasses the NT Recycle Bin functionality to recover files from the NT command line, NT File Manager and from every remote computer on the network from the administrator's desk - A first-ever achievement for any platform. New features in version 1.1 include Drag and Drop file deletion from NT Explorer, support for the Digital Alpha platform, and international support that provides compatibility with non-English versions of Windows NT. Current customers can obtain upgrade information at www.execsoft.co.uk.
C
omputer viruses are a huge destructive threat and virus detection software is widely reported on in computer magazines. With 50 new virus strains discovered each month, antivirus software can become obsolete even before it's installed. Surprisingly, viruses account for only 7% of all data loss. Actually five times as much loss (32%) comes from human error, such as accidental file deletions, formatting disk drives, trauma caused by a drop or fall, or doing faulty back-ups. B
ut backup tapes guarantee protection? Not according to Ontrack Data Int ernational with data recovery centres in London, Japan, Germany, Washington D.C., Los Angeles and Minneapolis. They estimate that 80% of tape backups fail or are not available at the critical moment they are needed. This is due to old, worn, or broken tapes, lost or mislabelled tapes, corrupted data, or the fact that the data wasn't recorded in the first place because of accidental file deletions or a PC hardware problem such as dirty disk heads. These new facts put Executive Software Network Undelete and its network-wide data protection into the "must-have" category.
E
xecutive Software Network Undelete provides the broadest safety net available to recover the widest range of important files, including those that are not currently sent to the Windows NT Recycle Bin or to back-up tapes. It saves hours of time by providing quick recovery of accidentally deleted files and makes lengthy searches through back-up tapes a thing of the past. Exclusive features of Executive Software Network Undelete include:
-
The Recovery Bin
: This provides expanded features and replaces the Windows NT Recycle Bin to capture a broader range of deleted files. This includes files that are deleted from the command line, Windows NT File Manager, and all other applications that do not currently send files to the Recycle Bin. It undeletes all files that were deleted using the standard Windows NT delete procedures. The Recovery Bin functions in a similar way to the NT Recycle Bin for local users, with the additional benefit that system administrators can connect to users local bins and recover files when they need support.
-
Undelete Direct From Disk
: Executive Software Network Undelete includes breakthrough file recovery technology that enables system administrators to undelete files directly from any NTFS or FAT disk drive on the network. If a user discovers that he's deleted an important file, even after he has also purged his Recovery Bin, the system administrator can get it back for him. The Undelete From Disk feature is most successful when done immediately after the file was deleted, as disk activity may cause the file to be overwritten.
-
Emergency Undelete Feature
: This unique function is used to recover files that were accidentally deleted even before the user installs the full Executive Software Network Undelete product. Emergency Undelete allows the user to run the product from a CD. This precaution prevents the installation of the product itself from overwriting the very same file that it is being used to recover. One user saved herself two months of work by using this feature to recover some accidentally deleted database and software development files.
-
Full Security
: Only the owner of a file or his network administrator can recover files from the users' Recovery Bin. Undelete from Disk can only be accessed with administrator privileges. Executive Software Network Undelete Client and Administrator versions fully support Windows NT security permissions and privileges.
S
uggested retail prices for Executive Software Network Undelete are £35.00 for the Client version, and £140.00 for the Administrator version. Sliding scale quantity discounts are available. E
xecutive Software Network Undelete is compatible with Windows NT 4.0. A vailable platforms include Intel and Alpha. The Client version of the product must be installed on all workstations in the network in order for the Administrator version to be used for network-wide file recovery. If a user accidentally purges an important file from his local Recovery Bin, the network administrator can, while sitting at his desk, locate the file on the users disk and use the Undelete Direct From Disk feature to recover it for him.
