G
lendale, CA. - August 18, 1998: Executive Software, the leader in system management tools, has announced the shipment of its high-speed manual version of Diskeeper within the second beta of Windows NT 5.0. This is the first version of Windows NT to include a built-in disk defragmenter, providing users with a quick and easy way to tune performance. Microsoft recognizes the importance of defragmenting disks to maximize system performance. The manual defragmenter in NT 5.0 defragments one disk at a time. The full-featured Diskeeper upgrade adds automatic "Set It and Forget It"

scheduling, network-wide defragmentation, selectable priority settings, and defragmentation of multiple disks concurrently.
T
he manual version of Diskeeper in NT5 utilizes the disk defragmentation snap-in of the Microsoft Management Console (MMC). Both the manual version and the full-featured Diskeeper upgrade can defragment all file systems used under NT 5.0, including the newly added FAT 32. The included defragmenter is a scaled-down, manually activated utility similar to CHKDSK (Check Disk) and Backup. The full-featured version of Diskeeper provides central control of defragmentation across networks of any size or location.
"
C
ustomers have asked us to provide integrated disk defragmentation tools for Windows NT Server and Windows NT Workstation. We are very pleased to provide a reliable, effective defragmenter from Executive Software and their Diskeeper technology in the release of Windows NT 5.0 beta 2," said Brad Chase, Vice President, Microsoft Platforms Group. "This built-in utility provides users with a fast and easy way to maximize system performance. System administrators that want the automatic scheduling and network-wide defragmentation can easily upgrade to the full-featured version of Diskeeper."
D
iskeeper Product Manager, George Goodrich, said: "Its no longer a question of whether or not disks need to be defragmented - it's a matter of how often and how easily it can be done -- with a minimum of system administrator time and attention. That's why we designed the full-featured Diskeeper to be a true "Set It and Forget It" network solution. Today's administrator defragments his network automatically to keep it operating at peak performance."
R
onnie McCain, Vice-President of INCAD, Inc. in Huntsville, AL. said: "We have a telecommunications engineering firm that has approximately 100 nodes networked and operational. Before purchasing Diskeeper for all the systems, we completed a few benchmarks on system performance and then tested again after Diskeeper was activated each day. Scheduling Diskeeper to run across the network was easy and we found the product to be a valuable and user-friendly tool. On the pentium systems we recorded a dramatic increase in transfer rates and disk access in both the peer to peer and peer to server environments."
F
ragmenting files into pieces allows them to be stored in available disk space and makes efficient use of the disk, however collecting the pieces together for use takes extra time and system resources. Defragmentation consolidates files together for fast access and restores system performance.
W
ith Diskeeper, software loading times and database search times can be cut in half. Performance can be increased for Web servers, e-mail servers, graphics and financial applications. Multimedia and video applications are kept smooth and synchronized.
A
ccording to the Windows Magazine March 1998 Issue: "Defragmenting your hard disk is one of the essentials of performance tuning. Executive Software's Diskeeper has emerged as the most extensive disk defrag program for both NT Workstation and Server."
T
he full-featured server version of Diskeeper is the only Windows NT defragmenter with central network controls that allow administrators to schedule, monitor and launch defragmentation across any network, whether it extends down the hall or across the country. This feature saves network administrators from having to visit each desktop to defragment its disks or grant full administrative privileges to users.
T
he Microsoft Press book "Running Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0" describes Diskeeper as "The most commonly used disk defragmentation program for Windows NT." Diskeeper is certified as Microsoft BackOffice compatible and it speeds performance for the entire family of BackOffice server products. Diskeeper was recently selected out of thousands of products to capture its second "Win 100" award from Windows Magazine. It is also a winner of the "Best of LAN Times" magazine award. Estimated street prices are $49.95 for Diskeeper for Windows NT Workstation and $259.95 for Diskeeper for Windows NT Server. Quantity discounts are available. Diskeeper runs on Intel
