Technical Breakthrough In Increased System Performance : New Diskeeper (R) 3.0 For Windows NT Advances Defragmentation Technology
G
lendale, CA. -- November 4, 1997: Executive Software has announced the release to manufacturing of version 3.0 of its award-winning Diskeeper defragmenter for Windows NT. In a major technical breakthrough, Diskeeper 3.0 can now defragment the previously unmoveable Windows NT directory files. This exclusive "Diskeeper-Only" feature represents an advance that until now was considered impossible. As a result, a greater magnitude of defragmentation is achieved on the system and performance is increased to unprecedented levels.
G
eorge Goodrich, Diskeeper Product Manager, said that: "Disk fragmentation is a feature that breaks up files and scatters them into pieces around the disk. While this speeds the storage of files, it results in slower file access times."
G
oodrich continued: "Additionally, directory files and their fragments become scattered across the disk, acting to break the disk's free space into pieces. This can cause delays in loading and running applications. Diskeeper 3.0 consolidates directories into a single location on the disk, not only speeding up every application on the system, but also the defragmentation process itself."
F
or over a decade, Executive Software's Diskeeper products have set the standard in network defragmentation and increased system performance for enterprise-class systems. Diskeeper for Windows NT is the only network-ready defragmenter available for Windows NT. In fact, the Microsoft Press book "Running Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0," describes Diskeeper as "The most commonly used disk defragmentation program for Windows NT."
D
iskeeper Product Manager George Goodrich continued: "Diskeeper has been a leading system utility in the midrange/mainframe market for the last 12 years. Its rise in popularity on the Windows NT platform continues to center around the increase in system performance it provides".
J
oseph Blucher of PrimeNet noted: "I can tell you that since installing Diskeeper the application response time has improved twofold. We do a lot of disk sharing, and Diskeeper has improved our productivity and attitude about being on the network."
D
iskeeper is the first Windows NT defragmenter with network controls that allow administrators to schedule, monitor and launch defragmentation across a network. These features save network administrators from having to run around to each desktop to defragment disks or grant administrative privileges to users.
Other new features in version 3.0 include:
T
he Diskeeper server version now also runs under Windows NT Workstation. This brings all of Diskeeper's networking functionalities under the control of the administrator at his desktop.
W
ith the new group scheduling feature a network administrator can simply highlight the domains, workgroups or computers he wants to schedule as a group and create a single schedule for them all with just a few mouse clicks.
A
n enhanced network view display presents all connected workstations. An administrator can select any workstation and analyze its fragmentation, run manual defragmentation, schedule defragmentation jobs, or modify schedule settings.
E
xpanded "Pop-Up" dialog boxes that can alert the user or administrator to the condition of a disk partition. This includes info about the extent of fragmentation, the amount of free space, etc. and makes recommendations on how to improve the condition to enhance performance.
W
ith Diskeeper, software loading times and database search times can be cut in half. Performance is increased for Internet servers, e-mail servers, graphics and financial applications. Multimedia and video applications are kept smooth and synchronized.

ounded in 1981, Executive Software is the world leader in defragmentation software for Windows NT and OpenVMS computer systems. Its products have increased system performance in enterprise-class networks for the last twelve years, beginning with the release of Diskeeper for Digital Equipment Corp's VMS operating system -- an enterprise system with which Windows NT has shared development roots.
E
xecutive Software recently announced that Microsoft Corporation will be including a manual version of Diskeeper in the Windows NT 5.0 operating system. Diskeeper is certified as Microsoft BackOffice compatible and it speeds performance for the entire family of Microsoft BackOffice server products.
D
iskeeper is featured on the Windows Magazine 1997 Recommended List and is winner of the "Best of LAN Times" magazine award. Suggested retail prices are $75.00 for Diskeeper for Windows NT Workstation and $399.00 for Diskeeper for Windows NT Server. Available platforms include Intel and Alpha.
