G lendale, CA. -- August 25, 1997: Executive Software International, the industry leader in supplying utilities for dynamic enterprise-class networks, has announced shipment of its "Set It and Forget It" Diskeeper disk defragmenter in French, German and Japanese native-language versions.

J ust last month, Executive Software announced that Microsoft Corporation has agreed to include a manual version of Executive's Diskeeper defragmenter in the Microsoft Windows NT operating system. Microsoft recognizes the importance of periodic defragmentation of disks in certain circumstances to maximize system performance.

W hen disk drives were first introduced, the file structure required that all files were contiguous, i.e., no file could be split into two or more pieces. A file had to fit within a single free space on the disk or it was not stored. Fragmenting a file was offered up as a solution. At first this was a new feature which allowed a file to be split up and stored quickly. But now with multi-gigabyte disks and CPUs running at up to 500 MHz, files can be scattered across disks into hundreds and sometimes thousands of pieces.

F ragmentation can be safely eliminated and system performance improved. Diskeeper eliminates fragmentation automatically in the background and is a significant operating system enhancement.

T he full-featured version of Diskeeper is the only Windows NT defragmenter with network controls that allow administrators to schedule, monitor and launch defragmentation across a network.
