Executive Software International Ships Diskeeper Defragmenter For Windows NT In French, German And Japanese
G
lendale, CA. -- August 25, 1997: Executive Software International, the industry leader in supplying utilities for dynamic enterprise-class networks, has announced shipment of its "Set It and Forget It" Diskeeper disk defragmenter in French, German and Japanese native-language versions.
J
ust last month, Executive Software announced that Microsoft Corporation has agreed to include a manual version of Executive's Diskeeper defragmenter in the Microsoft
Windows NT
operating system. Microsoft recognizes the importance of periodic defragmentation of disks in certain circumstances to maximize system performance.
D
iskeeper Product Manager George Goodrich said: "Now
Windows NT
users in four languages can obtain the benefits of peak performance by getting Diskeeper. Every application they run on their system will run faster with Diskeeper."
W
hen disk drives were first introduced, the file structure required that all files were contiguous, i.e., no file could be split into two or more pieces. A file had to fit within a single free space on the disk or it was not stored. Fragmenting a file was offered up as a solution. At first this was a new feature which allowed a file to be split up and stored quickly. But now with multi-gigabyte disks and CPUs running at up to 500 MHz, files can be scattered across disks into hundreds and sometimes thousands of pieces.
F
ragmentation can be safely eliminated and system performance improved. Diskeeper eliminates fragmentation automatically in the background and is a significant operating system enhancement.
T
he full-featured version of Diskeeper is the only
Windows NT
defragmenter with network controls that allow administrators to schedule, monitor and launch defragmentation across a network. This feature saves network administrators from having to run around to each desktop to defragment disks or grant administrative privileges to desktop users.
W
ith Diskeeper, software loading times and database search times can be cut in half. Performance is increased for Internet servers, e-mail servers, graphics and financial applications. Multimedia and video applications are kept smooth and synchronized.
E
xecutive Software has safely eliminated file fragmentation and increased performance for dynamic enterprise-class systems for the last eleven years, beginning with the release of Diskeeper for Digital Equipment Corp's VMS operating system -- an enterprise system with which
Windows NT
has shared development roots.
D
iskeeper is certified as Microsoft BackOffice compatible, which indicates that it integrates to boost performance for the entire family of Microsoft BackOffice server products. Diskeeper is featured on the Windows Magazine 1997 Recommended List and is winner of the "Best of LAN Times" magazine award. Suggested retail prices are $75.00 for Diskeeper for
Windows NT
Workstation and $399.00 for Diskeeper for
Windows NT
Server. Available platforms include Intel and Alpha. There are no client access charges.
